Healing Childhood Trauma (Deutsch)
By Dr. Judith Long
There are many reasons to heal trauma from the past but the most urgent and timely is that we need to create an inner environment in which we can enter the sacred space of the heart. When there are unresolved issues from our past they rest in our heart and when we attempt to enter our sacred space, we find that there is pain there. This is a huge deterrent for many. The problem is usually that we don't know what to do with the pain so we avoid it. That is a natural response however it is detrimental to our goal of ascending into the fourth dimension.
Another reason is that we need to develop the ability to truly forgive. We are hindered from doing that when we haven't realized the truth of our childhood difficulties. A child is egocentric. What that means is that they take responsibility for everything that is happening around them. In other words they blame themselves. So, the first and foremost person we need to understand and forgive is ourselves. Until we do this, it is impossible to truly forgive others.
I have found that a quick visit into the past, not to dwell there or get caught up in the drama, but to quickly retrieve the parts of us that are still residing there and bring them home with us into the present is the key. It is work that I truly enjoy doing. The transformation that occurs in people is amazing. The inner peace and joy that result from this work is well worth getting over the initial fear of doing it.
Remember that if you have experienced childhood trauma, you have already experienced it. You are an adult now and viewing it from this perspective is very different that when you were a little child. You were at the mercy of your caregivers then and now you are not.
Freeing yourself of the bonds of childhood trauma is life giving now. You can deeply enjoy your life and the coming changes will excite you. You will be fully present in this moment and fully functional to create your future.
Three things are especially striking about inner child work: the speed with which people change when they do this work; the depth of that change; and the power and creativity that result when wounds from the past are healed. In Dr. Long's format, each segment of treatment includes a meditation to unify with the inner child. When people first make contact with their inner child, the experience can often be overwhelming. Sometimes they sob intensely. Later, they say things like "I've been waiting all my life for someone to find me"; "It feels like I've come home". "My life has been transformed since I found my child." "This is the most powerful work I have ever done". "It's the missing link". "I feel wonderful".
The work focuses on helping people finish their unresolved grief from childhood — grief resulting from abandonment, abuse in all forms, the neglect of childhood developmental dependency needs, and the enmeshments that result from family system dysfunction. I have found that it is not the trauma itself that is the problem, it is the beliefs that we form about ourselves due to the trauma.
In the workshops and individual sessions we spend a good amount of time grieving our neglected childhood developmental dependency needs. The client is instructed on how to parent the child within, learning to meet the needs that are still clamoring for attention. In my experience, a developmental approach is the most thorough and effective way to heal our emotional wounds. Each stage of childhood development, there are 5, builds on the previous one. So, we start with infancy.
Once people have claimed and nurtured their wounded inner child, the creative energy of their wonderful natural child begins to emerge. Once integrated the inner child becomes a source of regeneration and new vitality. Carl Jung called the natural child the "wonder child" — our innate potential for exploration, awe and creative being.
My 26 years experience with this work has convinced me that healing the inner child is one of the quickest and most powerful ways to effect change in people. The almost immediate effect continues to amaze me. This change is permanent. You get to the core causes of your dis-ease and you learn how to transform them, creating permanent ease and well being. With the tools you learn in this work you create the life you came to live. There is no longer any excuse to experience ill health of body or mind.
Dr. Judith Long is available for inner child private sessions. In the course of working with Dr. Judith you will be receiving vibrational healing treatments as well. Your location doesn't matter.
