Emergency Preparedness: Reader Sharing

In the last few months I have been guided to live an emergency preparedness lifestyle. Without fully understanding why, I just did what I was guided to do: learn about long and short term food and water storage, stock-pile food, store remedies to have on hand for any emergency, and the list went on. Writing about each step brought comments from readers - sometimes concerns. Mostly agreement that they, too, were feeling inner guidance saying change was coming - and wondering if they were ready.

Here are some of the responses from readers:

From Michael Burtt.

"For many years I lived on a sailboat. I would work for a few months doing carpentry in Miami, then put 6 months supply of food on board and sail to the islands. The best way to train yourself, is to be forced to eat what you stock-up on. Like how much tamari is needed for how much brown rice.

Here are a few of my tips.

I spent 20 years with no refrigeration.

"In an Italian or Middle Eastern deli you can get olive jugs (usually free or for a dollar). They have a 6 inch opening and a 2 part top. One will hold 30 pounds of raisins, or 3 will hold 100 pounds of brown rice. They are excellent. And for open rowboat camping they will keep your clothes and bedding dry.

"Wheat berries will last indefinitely if kept dry.

"A hand grain grinder will make them into fresh ground flour, plus the wheat germ. For homemade bread, the best recipe is 1/3 ground wheat berries and 2/3 regular all purpose flour, 1/5 to 4/5 works also. For fresh vegetables at sea, sprouts are so nutritious that even now with blaa tasting veggies from California down the street, I still prefer sprouted wheat berries and mung beans. When comparing the prices and the nutrition, sprouts win every time.

"Probably the best results of this life stylewas that it simplified my diet over many years. Food is intended to keep us alive. It does not need to be a taste indulgence. Of course many are into that, but it's a luxury. When the situation requires priorities, then the folks who have kicked the coffee and chocolate addictions are ahead."

He wrote again, adding:

"There is one more technique for baking homemade yeast bread
over a campfire that should be spread around. As the yeast is rising, get a
good, hot campfire going to generate hot coals. Get a Dutch oven, 12" in diameter and about 6" high with cast iron top. Put a pyrex dish in the oven with small stones under it to keep it off the bottom. Allow a little space around the edge of the pyrex dish so it does not touch the sides for good circulation of hot air. Make a bed of red hot coals and push the Dutch oven into them. You will need the fire to keep going for the 40 min or so to keep the coals red hot. Place
bread in dish within the oven and enjoy. The bottom of the cast iron should
get red hot. You don't need an emergency to practice this one. It should be
something every camper can do. Everyone does know how to bake bread, right?"

Well, not everyone. I do, and so do some of my friends, but many people just look at me like I'm crazy when I mention baking bread.

From Lilly Morgan Anderson:

"Some time in August my angels gave me a message: 'Spend and trust'.

My wife, Lori, and I were receiving guidance to make preparations to provide for ourselves - food, water, heat, etc.. Once we started looking into what it would take to stockpile enough food for a few months, we began to freak out a little about the cost. And that's when the message came through loud and clear, 'Spend and trust'.

"And so it is. Boy have we been spending. Hand powered well pump, bulk food, storage containers for food and water, wood burning stove, installation of said stove, chicken coop, chickens, chicken feed, chicken books, seeds for spring gardening, basic medical supplies, and so on and so forth. Lori focused on research and I went into my heart for guidance.

"For the most part, my angelic self has been pretty particular about what to purchase. When Lori was researching wood burning stoves she showed me a few models and my higher self only wanted us to buy the Esse Ironheart (www.esse.com). It's a beautiful stove and will provide heat and a means of cooking food, but I can't say I know why the angels picked that one. I have to admit, it's handy having higher self along while shopping.

"The truth is I don't know what's going to happen, when it's going to happen, or what I'm going to need to get through it, but my angels know exactly how best to prepare. I feel so much more at ease knowing I'm following their guidance.

"Our decision to buy chickens was also higher self inspired. Lori had been guided to chickens a few months ago and was researching different breeds, housing and so on and we were planning on getting a small flock of hens. Then in August our small flock plan turned into a larger flock plan. The Angels had us buy a coop built by the Amish that houses 40 chickens and it looks like we'll be filling it by the end of autumn. Each hen will give us 3-5 eggs a week. I believe we'll be sharing eggs with neighbors and those that come to stay with us.

"I have found Machaelle Wright's Perelandra books (www.perelandra-ltd.com) to be incredibly helpful throughout this whole undertaking, especially with the chickens. Machaelle's books have taught me so much about the balance of nature and also how to communicate with devas and nature spirits. My connection to Mother Earth has broadened and deepened in ways I never could have imagined.

"It's not always easy to 'spend and trust'. At times I've felt overwhelmed, frustrated, frightened, and just plain crazy. My three year old said to me the other day, 'Mama, when I want to talk to God I just sit still and listen.' When I heed this advice, my heart always reassures me I'm on the right track. And when I let myself, I have a ton of fun shopping with my angels!"

I also heard from a few people in fear about the future. Concerns about challenging health issues, restricted income, lack of resources, and feelings of powerlessness were expressed.

I asked the angels to respond to those fears and concerns, and here is what they said.

"Beloved children of God.

Do not go into fear.

That was never the purpose of the article's awareness.

Rather, the purpose is to be empowered and be the natural creative being you already are.

Look at your particular circumstances.

See what things you can do and can work with.

Work with them.

Change them if you can.

Provide alternatives where you can.

And where you can't, know that you are still provided for as beloved children of God.

This is preparation time.

It is also trust time.

Trust that you are right where your soul wanted you to be at this time in the world.

Trust that you are able to live with grace and ease if you choose.

Trust that you know what to do when you need to do it.

Trust that if/when you need to make changes you can do so without fear.

And you are divinely guided every step of your way.

Stay in your heart, loved ones.

Stay in a place of love.

When you are in a place of love, you cannot be in a place of fear.

When you find yourself falling into fear, yank yourselves out of there any way you can.

That way you won't go down so deeply into it, nor will you stay there as long.

Everything is easier when in a state of love.

Everything.

For now, connect to the highest level of the divine that you feel closest to.

And stay connected with your intention.

You are protected.

You are loved.

You are safe.

Namaste."

Whatever the future holds, we hold in our hearts the keys to change without fear, joy that we are part of this change, and our intention for grace and ease all the way.

Divinely guided and inspired, we are the change we choose to be. We are the fourth dimension. Right here and right now. It's already happened. We are creating our realities, learning to live in a state of love, and deeply connected to the divine.

Life is creation.

Who could ask for a better way to be prepared?
