It is well known that these drugs are not safe and have not been on the market long enough to provide sufficient long term studies regarding their effects. The tendency for patients to form addictions to these drugs, is referred to as ‘dependence’ which gives the medical authorities, the psychiatric authorities, and the pharmaceutical industry permission to keep them in a tamer category than Morphine, heroin, and other controlled substances.
