The Journey to The One
How difficult is the journey to The One? How can we reach the same state of consciousness like that of the Eternal Source? Why are some people able to stay in the Realization Path to God and while some don’t resonate with meditation or spiritual techniques whatsoever? These are some questions that are in vogue nowadays especially with the new popularity in the general public of Yoga, Tai Chi, Reiki, eating healthy and so on.
But life can change radically when we realize that there is something more to life than waking up and running to a job that we don’t like very much to make money to buy a house or a car etc. In that moment of realization there is the possibility to change our way of living completely. Even a simple connection with Mother Earth or watching an eagle soar can trigger you to remember who you really are and why you decided to come here.
There are numerous instants where, since childhood, men and women of this planet dedicated their lives to God. For example, around the year 280 AD, Amma Syncletica of Alexandria, although she was just a child, decided to adopt the life of a hermit. Although her family was one of the richest in Egypt, she wasn’t interested in valuable possessions and after the death of her parents, she gave all her wealth to the poor. She chose to reside in a crypt and live an ascetic life, meditating and praying.
From childhood, the master teacher Yogananda was prone to meditate and pray with the Masters in India which triggered reactions in his family. But, eventually they let him go on his way. We know that this call was karmic and not all humanity has this call. Usually this call comes from previous times when we were here and we were working (sometimes very hard) our way to God.
So how difficult is to change our state of consciousness? Well, one thing is for sure. Just as we learned unhealthy eating habits or to lose time sitting for hours in front of a television, we can unlearn those behaviors. A simple exercise of willingness, wishing and desire can change these habits completely. Remember that in our brain all the synapses that are connected together and produce these desires, can be disconnected and brought together into new contacts that can produce new habits, new practices and patterns.
This is the first step on the journey; to be aware that there is something more and to have the willingness to go for it. After that it is good to look for a spiritual guide – a teacher who is experienced in guiding people in a good way.
We have four categories of spiritual teachers.
The first category are the teachers that are giving a message through their books and writings. We often find exceptionally gifted teachers in this category that give us so much hope and happiness through the magic of their words.
The second category are the teachers that give spiritual messages through their workshops and seminars.
The third category is a combination of the first and second teaching systems. Great teachers are to be found all over the world.
The fourth category are the teachers that are teaching through meditation. This last category is very precious. Actually it is so precious that you won’t be able to even find these teachers easily. The majority of them are hidden in the solitude of life and they unify with the ocean of divinity, meditating day and night. These are the real masters; we can even say that they are the “last” masters. They speak in metaphors, they give hints and mostly are quiet, listening to the voice of Infinite Spirit. Sometime they stop for a moment and deliver a message to the people around them. If you are part of these people then you are blessed with a great and unique experience.
The path to enlightenment is not easy mainly because of two reasons. The first reason is that our egos are always present and it can jeopardize our connection with the masters. All that we learned in the first years of life that became belief patterns must be undone. When you meet a true master, he can read you like a book so his (or her) task is to dismantle your ego piece by piece. They know that what is stored there is a function of your energy and karmic relationships.
The second reason concerns the continuous dialogue in your mind. You literally have to break this ongoing “non-sense” speech. Setting a trap for the mind usually gets very good results. Since it is almost impossible to stop all of your thoughts, a quieting technique is to focus on just one thought and work with it until the thought itself dissipates in the Universe and you remain alone with The One. The easiest way is to observe your breathing without interfering with it. Whenever another thought intrudes, you go back to watching your breathing. Try to do this practice each day for two weeks beginning with 5 minutes per day and gradually increasing it for up to 30 minutes.
Remember that no mystic or master is going to tell you that enlightenment is easy as we are so caught up in polarity that we forgot completely who we really are. But all of these masters will tell you that it is worth trying. Finding out why you are here and getting back on the Journey to The One really is worth it all.
