To Worship or To Become

To Worship or To Become

Story by: Daniel Mitel

No, no one wanted TO BECOME. To worship was so much easier.

(Mothers Agenda, vol.1)

When Mirra Alfassa, the famous Master also known as ‘The Mother’, said the above sentence in 1956 to her most prominent disciple, Satprem, people were smiling and did not understand the importance of this warning. The Mothers Agenda, a comprehensive work that encloses more than 6000 pages in 13 volumes, is a ‘must’ read spiritual series for any spiritual seeker. When Gurdjieff, a prominent Western mystic of the last century, pushed away his main student – P. D. Ouspensky – people literally thought that the Master lost his mind. Ouspensky was also puzzled about this unusual decision, but Gurdjieff saw that Ouspensky was on the wrong path. Instead of transforming himself and practicing what he was teaching, Ouspensky started to worship and venerate Gurdjieff.

Jesus himself asked the Apostles not to worship him but to understand and practice what he was teaching. Of course, nobody was listening to Him. Worshiping was much easier.

Why do we continuously get into the trap of glorifying people who are able to achieve God’s realization? Why do we continuously deny our own ability to be like them? What is keeping us in this “spiritual lethargy;” what is keeping us in this slowness and inactivity?

Well, it is much easier to simply ask somebody else to do our job. It is much easier to think that a Master will do it for us. But it does not work this way. First and foremost, there are no shortcuts in any spiritual realization. It does not matter how much money you have or how many workshops you are going to do or how many technologically advanced tools you use. You must follow the path to your own growth and sweat on that road until you find who you really are and why you are here.

Secondly, no Master is going to do your work here in the third dimension. Remember that Ananda spent more than forty years with Buddha and nothing happened to him. Ananda was so puzzled when Buddha just touched the head of a new disciple, Mahakashyap, and Mahakashyap started dancing filled with energy and bliss. Ananda, very upset, said that for more than forty years Buddha was touching his head and nothing happened to him. He could not comprehend how Mahakashyap became enlightened just with one touch of the Master.

What happened that day, almost 600 years prior to Jesus’ arrival, was that Mahakashyap surrendered in the hands of Buddha. If you are able to completely abandon yourself in the hands of a master, then the Master’s energy will flow into you. For us it is hard to understand, but a Master is completely and entirely empty; a Master is like a crystal clear lake that reflects your ego entirely without bias. Do not expect to get the same answer to the same question from a Master. The answer reflects your state of consciousness, not theirs.

Osho used to say that if you ask a Master an idiotic question you are going to receive a similar answer. Of course, you will think that the Master is silly, but his answer is just a reflection of your consciousness. The Master is a sort of a ‘spiritual boomerang’; anything you throw to them returns to you, while they remain untouched and detached. Once you surrender in the hands of the Master your energy will join the ocean of emptiness where the Master is living and you will become. The worship phase will come to an end.

Last month I was teaching in Moscow and on our day off between events there was a splendid opportunity to meditate in a beautiful Cedar tree forest. As usual, I connected with Anastasia, the Siberian Ascended Master, and I humbly joined her gigantic energy in a cosmic network of love and light.

Finally, I asked her where the Masters were today and told her that people are looking all over the world to find a real Master who can show them the path of realization. The sublime being smiled to me and whispered in a never-ending flow of love and energy: “It is time for people to find the Master within.”

The message is very profound. In a world where we completely lost our values and are surrounded by surrogates and fake self-proclaimed spiritual teachers, we need to reconnect with who we really are. Going into the heart is the key. We need to surrender our logical side and embrace our intuition. We need to let go of resentment and hatred, while always remembering the golden rule: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

Only then may we be able to find the Master, or “find the Master within us,” as Anastasia said.
