Be Not Ashamed Woman

By Heather Fraser

"Be not ashamed, womanyou are the gates of the body, and you are the gates of the soul." — Walt Whitman

I had just returned from a hike in nature. It was a hot and muggy August day and I was in heaven. These are the days that I adore. The clouds were dark and building and I could smell the rain on its way. I didn't care. I began my hike anyway and silently invited the storm to explode so I could be part of it. I was sweating and my clothes were starting to stick to me. I loved every minute! The wind was flattening the long grass and I felt the full force of it on my face cooling me off. Thunder rumbled across the sky and I was in awe of the power of nature.

Disappointing as it was, I did not get the chance to experience the rain pelting down on me. It would have felt so good! But, it blew right on by. As I was walking, I was reflecting on the perfection of the analogy, a storm blowing over, and how that happens so often with our own inner storms and difficulties. All storms end eventually. Some are fiercer than others. Some rip our protective shells right off. Some lift us off our feet and smash us to the ground, but always..they must end.

I was not alone on my hike that day. I felt Goddess energy all around me. She was reminding me of all the storms I've had to weather on my way to finding her. And yet I would not change a moment of the journey. There is a certain richness and peace, a kind of relief and freshness on the other side of a storm. Add them all up and you get wisdom, strength, & courage. I am grateful for the storms. They bring new growth, they are powerful, sometimes destructive, but always life giving.

When I got home I went to my journal and flipped through it to find something I knew I had written down in there about The Goddess a long time before. I don't recall now if it was something I wrote myself, or words I copied down from something I had read elsewhere. Regardless, these words are powerful, and I share them.

A goddess is a woman who emerges from deep within herself. She is a woman who has honestly explored her darkness and learned to celebrate her light. She is a woman who is able to fall in love with the magnificent possibilities within herself. She is a woman who knows of the magic and mysterious places inside herself, the sacred places that can nurture her soul and make her whole. She is a woman who radiates light. She is magnetic. She walks into a room and male and female alike feel her presence. She has power and softness at the same time. She has powerful sexual energy that's not dependent on physical looks. She has a body that she adores and it shows by the way she comfortably lives and moves in it. She cherishes beauty, light, and love. She is a mother to all children. She flows with life in effortless grace. She can heal with a look or a touch of the hand. She is fiercely sensual and fearlessly erotic and engages in sex as her way to share with another in touching the Divine. She is compassion and wisdom. She is a seeker of Truth and cares deeply about something bigger than herself. She is a woman who knows that her purpose in life is to reach higher and rule with love. She is a woman in love with love. She knows that joy is her destiny and by embracing it and sharing it with others, wounds are healed. She is a woman who has come to know that her partner is as tender, lost, and frightened as she has been at times. She has come to understand the scars of the boy in him and knows that together, love can be the relief, the healing of their wounds. She is a woman who can accept herself as she is. She can accept another as they are. She is able to forgive her mistakes and not feel threatened by another's even when attacked. She is a woman who can ask for help when she needs it or give help when asked. She respects boundaries, hers and another's. She can see God in another's eyes. She can see God in her own. She can see God in every life situation. She is a woman who takes responsibility for everything she creates in her life. She is a woman who is totally supportive and giving. She is a Goddess.

I also adore the description below by Lakota Sioux Henry Houston, that so beautifully helps us visualize the Divine Balance and Union between male and female energies.

When a woman is in her centre, she is like wild mare taking flight freely through the open plain, her mane whipping in the wind. The strength of her powerfully sculptured legs merge with the earth, majestically creating its own drumbeat in tribute to Source. She is pure and primal expression of creative power.

What is possible for her becomes totally transformed when her beloved is riding her, the masculine strength who knows and honors her power. It is through his surrender to her that he is able to become one with her. His masterful leadership and understanding of her raw power, her desires and her vision guides and directs the powerful energies in a manner that manifests the greatest good for the unified collaboration. He harnesses the energy into a purposeful end for both.

He does not fear or compete with her magnificent power. Through surrender and union, he experiences his True Nature beyond the world of form and this unleashes his own spiritual power. He is free! She gratefully surrenders to his leadership, for it grounds her, stabilizes her energy, and allows for its manifestation on the physical plane. Both are empowered by the union. Still each of them stands sovereign in his and her own power. Out of the balanced unity is created a third force, a natural flow of synergistic energy between them that combines their individual wholeness into an infinitely expanded wholeness together. All of creation joins in the celebration of this Divine Union.

On the journey to becoming all that we are, whether Divine Goddess or Peaceful Warrior, we have to know who we are, and we cannot play small...we must know the words in which we speak, and even the touch we so gently provide...even a glance...a look from our eyes, can cause more growth and more change in one single Being than a lifetime of knowledge.

As long as anyone continues to live in their past and remain married to the drama of their existence, they cannot experience the truth of their soul, and in order to give up the drama of one's life, one must have conviction, commitment, compassion, grace, and dignity — and those things you can't GET — you must earn them through time.
