Spirit of Ma'at: "The Dreamtime" — Vol 3, No 10

EDITORIAL The Gathering Dream

by Drunvalo

In January 2003, the Mayans told me that war with Iraq was inevitable. But — surprisingly — they said that the outcome of the war was not inevitable.

If the war started before April first, they said, it would be short. If it started on or after April first, however, it would be the most devastating war man has even seen.

In other words, the Mayans believed that the outcome of the war could be changed in some way. And on the subject of changing the Reality, most of the indigenous people that I have talked with agree: With ceremony, prayer, and a personal connection with Nature and God, all things are possible.

As we know, the war began in March — before the Mayan deadline of April first.

Who or what do you suppose made this decision to go to war at that time? Was it just luck? Or could it be that something incredible is taking place in the world at this moment, not just luck but what I would call the Gathering Dream of the world's desires not to have any more wars; a heartfelt desire to live in a world of peace, compassion, and caring.

Are we all beginning to dream a New World, where love and compassion guide the course of world events?

As I watch the events of each day unfold, I cannot help but "feel" that the Gathering Dream is gaining strength and momentum, and that it is maturing. Although the outer world continues to be aggressive, you can see it in the eyes of the people everywhere: an earnest longing for a peaceful and loving world where all life is protected and guarded against human atrocities.

And we can help speed up this process by entering the Dreamtime and participating in the Gathering Dream. That's what this issue of the Spirit of Ma'at is about.

The Dreamtime

The aboriginals of Australia speak of the Dreamtime: a state of consciousness — a dimension, or world — where all people and all things are interconnected. It is in this state of consciousness, this dimension, that new worlds are dreamed into being.

In my studies with the human heart in the last few years, I have experienced this state of consciousness that the natural peoples of the world know as truth. And it is a place of such wonder! It is a Sacred Space within the heart.

When science became our new "religion," access to this Sacred Space become almost totally hidden to the Western mind. Scientists do not even know that it exists, for they have never been able to penetrate into the "female" experience of the heart with any depth or understanding. The female path, to the scientist, appears weak and undefined.

The people at the HeartMath Institute of Stanford have come closer than anyone I am aware of to uncovering the secrets of this Sacred Space. But the actual experience of the place of the heart appears to be inaccessible to a mental approach. It can be known only through direct inner exploration.

In June or July 2003, I am going to release a new book called Living in the Heart. In this book, I will speak about this place in the human heart that, I believe, holds the ability and possibility to literally dream a new world. Never before in my life have I been so excited about anything.

Certain indigenous tribes gave me direct experience of this place in the heart, with the expectation that I would show you the "way" to find it for yourself. From my own experience, then, I know that everything we think we see in the outer world also exists in our heart: the galaxies, the stars, the planets, all that we know here on Earth — and even all that we are not aware of!

Yes, it is true. I have found this, and so have hundreds of other people I have worked with in the Living in the Heart workshops.

In other words, there is more than one way to enter Space. We can do it by leaving the surface of the physical Earth in some kind of spaceship. Or we can venture into the exact same Space by entering the place within our hearts. We can find the place that connects to the Heavens, and begin to travel to the stars, using only our Spirit.

Both methods — physical spaceships, and inner journeys — achieve precisely the same ends. One method is male, from the Mind, and the other is female, from the Heart.

And what has become clear to me is that, once the knowledge and understanding about Dreaming from the Heart is realized by humanity, our troubles will vanish and the seeming impossible will become the reality.

The Actual Experience

It is not possible in an article of this length to completely delineate the methods of reaching the state of consciousness I refer to as "Living in the Heart," but some aspects can be illuminated.

Eventually, I feel we will enter this Sacred Space of the Heart en masse as it becomes obvious that our heart and our dreams hold the answer not only to our problems but to achieving a super-enhanced state of being. But in the beginning, a method will be necessary for most people.

The following principles are the major signposts I have found on the roadway to the heart. Through an understanding of these four principles, you may be able to find this Sacred Space of the Heart for yourself. And if you do not succeed in your first attempts, don't give up. This place in the heart is elusive — but in time, we all will find it. It is our birthright.

  1. First of all, one must be intimately connected through love with Mother Earth and Father Sky. This means that you must feel a deep, loving exchange between the spirit of the Earth, the spirit of the rest of Creation, and yourself. Without this connection, the roadway to the heart will be blocked. You can achieve this connection through practicing the Unity Breath, as described in our June 2001 issue (see Meditation of Heaven and Earth).

  2. Most people's spirits are located, at least within the human body, at the Pineal Gland, in the center of the head. And yet, as long as our spirit or consciousness is centered in the head, it is impossible for us to be in the heart. We must allow our consciouness to leave the head and literally "travel" to the heart. Through whatever means comes to us, we must begin to physically look out at the world from within our hearts.

  3. Once we have traveled with our consciousness into the heart, we must further locate the Sacred Space that is within the heart. There are different ways of doing this. The Kogi of South America enter a totally dark place and remain standing without food, water, or sleep for nine days and nights. They find this inevitably opens the spirit to the heart.

Realizing that the Kogis' method would not be practical for those of us in this modern culture, I have found that pure "female intuition" also will get us there, once our spirit has actually entered the physical heart.

  4. Once there, in the Sacred Space of the Heart, we use our intuition, again, to find that tiny Space-within-the-Space where Creation takes place. In this Space, we and God are One.

Remembering Ancient Knowledge

The day after I finished the manuscript for my new Living in the Heart book, Ron LaPlace from Canada sent me (by coincidence) the following quote out of the Chandogya Upanishad 8.1.2-3. The Upanishads are ancient Hindu sacred texts, so from this quote, it is obvious that the ancients knew precisely of what I am speaking.

If someone should say to you:
"In the fortified City of the Imperishable,
Our body, there is a lotus,
And in this lotus a tiny space:
What does it contain that one
Should desire to know it?"

You must reply:
"As vast as this space without
Is the tiny space within your heart:
Heaven and earth are found in it,
Fire and air, sun and moon,
Lightning and the constellations,
Whatever belongs to you here below
And all that doesn't,
All this is gathered in that tiny space
Within your heart."

Are the people of the world secretly remembering this Sacred Space within the Heart? Is this the meaning that the Iraqi war, though inevitable, began when it did?

I believe that this is so. And I believe that, as more and more people find their power within their own hearts, the Gathering Dream will manifest here on Earth before our earthly eyes.

So be as brave as a little child. Enter your own heart, and witness your greatest heart's desire becoming a reality. Believe in the power of your own heart, and especially the dreams that can come from this tiny place. And your world and my world will change in ways that we both hold in our hearts.

See you in our Heart. See you in our Dream.

In Love and Service,

Drunvalo
