- Barbara Lamb, MS/MFT, is a licensed therapist and hypnotherapist. Most importantly, she has had years of training in regression therapy. This latter pursuit opened up to her the whole world of extraterrestrial contact, through using hypnosis to regress people to their "close encounters of the third kind."
Following the Lamb interview, we have presented a first-person account with an "experiencer" (see Douglas Taylor's Story).
Wynn: Barbara, did you start out as a normal, middle-of-the road, regular counselor?
Barbara: Yes, I did. Back in 1976.
Wynn: How did you expand your scope to people who had ET encounters?
Barbara: In 1984, I began to get intensive training as a past-life regression therapist. And at least three times during the succeeding seven years, I had the experience that people with whom I was doing past-life regressions found themselves in a preceding lifetime as an extraterrestrial.
Then, in 1991, a young woman came to me for regression work, and it turned out that, as far as we can tell, she had been traumatized by abduction experiences and visits in her room by ET beings. Since then, I would say I have worked with about four hundred and fifty different individuals who've had extraterrestrial encounters. Many of these people have gone through only one to five regressions, and some have had has many as thirty or forty regressions.
Wynn: How can you tell that these people are not just imagining these things, as opposed to having real experiences?
Barbara: When a person is involved in these regressions, they are actually reliving the experiences. They have the full gamut of physical sensation and emotional experience, and sometimes the reaction is extremely strong. Also, they are clearly aware of what's going on in the relived experience, moment by moment. And when I ask them how they would rate what happened during the regression — real, daydream, or just imagination? — they always say it was totally real. They would say that they could never experience a daydream so intensely.
Wynn: In these situations, from what I've learned at this Congress, it seems that people have two basic kinds of experiences. Some are real, but are happening in another dimension, while the physical body remains on the earth plane. It's just their consciousness that is involved. And in the second kind of experience, the person's physical body is actually transported elsewhere.
Have you found both of these kinds of experiences with the people you've counseled?
Barbara: Yes. Sometimes it seems that the person is taken in an astral sense, where the body is left behind — in bed, or in the car, or wherever the experience started. And sometimes, when a person returns, they have actual physical markings or scars on their body, so it would make sense to conclude that they were taken physically.
Wynn: You've seen these marks?
Barbara: Oh, yes, many times. They usually tend to heal up quickly, in a few days. But there are situations where a little scar will last, even for a few years. There's a husband and wife I work with who both have identical small scars. Hers is on the inside of her right forearm, and his is on the left. And those scars have been there for at least three years. But some people theorize that even if people are taken astrally, a scar can still appear on their bodies, because the astral body does affect the physical body.
Some people are taken for wonderfully transformational experiences, with spiritual happenings. They seem to be going into different dimensions of reality. They seem to go "beyond the veil," as some people call it. It appears that those people are taken astrally, rather than physically, but it's difficult to know unless there are witnesses.
Usually, there are no witnesses, but there are examples I know of personally where two people were sleeping in the same bed on a given night and one woke up and realized that the other person was missing, was nowhere in the house, and yet all the doors were still locked from the inside. So in those cases, the individual was physically gone, and there was a witness.
Wynn: Do you have speculation about how people are taken?
Barbara: A typical scenario is that someone who is asleep at night will wake up and notice that there is a really bright light flooding through the window. Sometimes the light is moving and coming toward them in the bed.
Or experiences might start by waking up in the night — sensing vibrationally that something is happening — and noticing a white light moving around in the bedroom. The light may come over them or settle in the space right next to the bed. And the next thing they know, instead of an orb of light, there are three small beings, three to four feet tall, who look exactly like each other, with big heads and big eyes. Then people will have the sensation of not being able to move or call out, and will experience themselves levitating and floating upward. And these beings will be right there with them. They can float right through the wall or the ceiling.
Then they might be vertically or horizontally floated into what seems like a bright beam of light. If they can see where they are going, they usually describe it as a big round or oval-shaped object that's just hovering there in the sky. So people actually float over their neighborhoods until they reach the craft. Then they float into an interior space, accompanied by the same three beings that originally met them.
Sometimes the experience starts for people when they are in a car, either alone or with another, and then they notice that there's a bright light over them that seems to be coming from the sky toward the front or back of the car. The typical thing is that the car's motor starts to falter and forces the car to a stop, so the person will typically try to get the car off the road. Then everything will go off — the motor, the lights, and so on. By this time, the overhead bright light is usually much closer to where they are. And then there will be two or three beings that will open the door of the car — even if the car door is locked — and usher them out, then move them into the light and from there to a craft.
Another thing that happens is that someone may be with a group of people in a room, like an office, and suddenly everybody is sort of frozen and stops what they are doing. In UFO lingo this is called "switched off." Even the person that is being taken is switched off. It's as if everyone were frozen in time and space. The person is taken, then a couple of hours might go by, after which the person is returned — and suddenly, everyone in the room becomes aware again. No one knew the person was missing, and usually the person who was taken doesn't remember what happened, either. But everyone will typically notice that time has gone by — an hour and a half or two hours — and nobody had any awareness of what had happened during that missing time. They just can't quite figure it out.
Nowadays, if something like that happened, people might think of an abduction. But back when these things first began to occur, decades ago, everyone would be completely baffled.
Wynn: The kinds of things you are describing have happened for a number of people you've counseled?
Barbara: Oh, yes.
Wynn: Do the beings always look the same?
Barbara: Not consistently. But often there are three little ones who escort the person to the rest of the contact experience.
Wynn: Do you think these things could have been happening even hundreds of years ago?
Barbara: Yes, I do.
I had my own therapist regress me with the intent of finding out why I had so much interest in UFOs and ETs and crop circles — nobody else in my family had those interests. And in the regression it came up that I was taken in the 1600s by a group of silvery-blue beings who seemed really wonderful to me, and I had a very positive, loving interaction with them. At that time, I was a male Welsh guard, and I was transformed into one of the ETs, which was a fascinating experience.
There are other accounts of unusual things that happened for people in other times. Of course, all of this is very difficult to prove.
Wynn: Do you have any speculation as to the technology or the modus operandi by which these things occur? Is it a technological process that causes these events? Or is it initiated by the thoughts and consciousness of the aliens?
Barbara: We're not sure. Some people do report in regression that at least one of the beings has something that looks like a wand or a flashlight, and that when they shine this light on someone, the person becomes immobilized and blanks out, becoming unconscious of what's going on. It seems as though that piece of technology also might have something to do with the aliens' ability to levitate and transfer the person to the craft.
I think aspects of the movie Men in Black might have been inspired by these kinds of accounts.
As for responding directly to thoughts and consciousness of the aliens, there are some people who feel that they are communicated with telepathically and feel directed by those communications. In these cases, they hear voices in their minds.
If people to know why this is happening to them, I ask them in regression if they'd really like to find out? If they say yes, then I just have them ask in their thoughts: "Why me?" And the answer comes telepathically. The answers are very interesting. Often, they hear, "You gave permission for this." The person will say, "No way," and will be told, "You did it before you were born."
I sometimes regress people back to the source of their contact with extraterrestrial beings, where they can experience their Soul and look at the reasons why they chose to incarnate in this lifetime. And they may find that, in deciding about this lifetime, they were approached by extraterrestrial beings and asked if they would cooperate in a project in this lifetime, and they did give permission.
I try to be as neutral as possible when I ask questions about these things, so as not to plant suggestions that might bias someone's response when I ask them to go back to their Source. Sometimes it comes out that the person was one of the group of alien beings in a past life, and in this life they are taking a turn at being human, while the same beings are working with them from other realms.
Wynn: So in other words, it's as though there is a family of beings that are not having earth incarnations, and one of them has decided to incarnate here, so the others are looking out for that one?
Barbara: Yes, they will actually come and help the person telepathically — be an unseen guide for them. Sometimes they will even do a physical healing on the person. I have worked with people who have actually been taken by a group of extraterrestrials and healed of serious physical problems. One man had a hole in his heart healed. Someone else was healed of terminal cancer.
Wynn: When they do these healings, do they take the individuals away and work on some other plane? Or do they heal them while they are in the physical?
Barbara: I've had both of those kinds of scenarios come out in regressions. Usually I believe they are taken somewhere else for that healing. When we do a regression, the whole setting seems not to be "here." It seems to be a room on a craft. But very often the person doesn't see the outside of the craft. They can describe the inside, and usually they see curved walls.
Sometimes people are visited during their sleep in their bedrooms at night and different procedures are done right then and there while they are in bed.
Wynn: What do you think are the reasons these encounters are taking place? What do they want from us?
Barbara: Through all of this work, there seems to be quite a variety of ETs that come here, and each one of these groups has its own agenda. So it's not realistic to lump them all together.
Wynn: How many different groups do you think there are?
Barbara: I have encountered probably twenty different groups.
Wynn: Do they get along with each other? Do they cooperate?
Barbara: Some of the groups seem to be working completely separately, but often it happens that the person witnesses two to four different kinds of beings — different species — working together right there in the same environment. They might experience being on a medical table with a number of different species looking at them. People see different kinds of eyes, facial features, and bodies. So it does seem as though a few of those groups are working together.
And when whatever procedures were going on are finished, people may be ushered into another room where still other kinds of beings seem to have the role of teaching them things. For example, they might be trained in psychic development or in doing physical healings.
Wynn: So after this kind of encounter, they may be permanently changed for the positive?
Barbara: Yes, they do develop. They notice they have developed skills that they would not have developed otherwise. Sometimes they develop telepathy or psychometry — the ability to "read" events from objects. Some even develop telekinesis — the ability to move things with their minds. This kind of training sometimes starts when people are children.
They are taught to be concerned about earth ecology — to work for ecological reform — and to work against human violence on earth, not just violence toward fellow humans but also toward animals.
Wynn: So you're saying that there seems to be a high degree of compassion coming from these aliens?
Barbara: Well, some of the groups take samples of tissue, skin, DNA, and blood, and some of them will do reproductive procedures in an effort to create hybrid beings. It's easy to look at these groups as being self-serving. They seem to be out to do whatever is important to them.
One group says something like, "Our race is dying and we need to have some of the components humans have, or we will die out completely." We apparently have a lot of components in our genetic makeup that they don't have. For example, we have much stronger bodies than many of them. And we have emotions. A lot of the species don't seem to have emotions.
Wynn: This would be the service-to-self ones, correct?
Barbara: Yes. They seem to lack the component of caring, compassion, and love that humans have. They're much more mental. So although they're very intelligent, they're not very well rounded. They don't know how to play. They don't know how to laugh and have fun. And they look at us, and they see that those would be valuable characteristics to have.
Some of these groups want to create a whole new set of beings who are part man and part alien, beings who will eventually be able not only to live here on earth, and but also to live as hybrid beings in other parts of the Universe.
A few times, these beings have said to the experiencers that they need to create go-betweens: people who can act as ambassadors between Earth and their species elsewhere. The hybrid go-betweens would be able to understand both groups, since they would have components of both in their own makeup.
We think there are an amazing number of hybrids, even on the planet right now. I know a woman who did a doctoral dissertation on alien-human hybrids, and it actually was accepted by a university. Her task was to locate people who fit this classification, and she found six of them to interview as part of her thesis.
Nobody has the full picture. But it seems as though more hybrids live back on the home planet or on the spacecraft than here on Earth. That has been confirmed by some of the beings, who have said that most of the hybrid children could not survive here. They would look too different, and would be treated horribly.
Wynn: Would you tell us about some of the more benevolent kinds of experiences?
Barbara: Some people have teachers who are ETs. These people are taken to certain settings, like temples, laboratories, libraries, or even classrooms. But it was suggested by one of my clients who channels an extraterrestrial that human students actually are taken to something like a "web of learning" in the universe. It's not actually a physical place, in other words, but the experiencer will picture it that way — as a library, or whatever they feel comfortable with.
Many people who have extraterrestrial teachers will go to these learning places often, and will be taught advanced skills and insights.
Some people have one particular being that seems to be a life-long mentor. That being can start working with them early in childhood and continue right on through the adult years.
Wynn: What kinds of things are taught in this "web of learning"?
Barbara: A number of different things. One man was taught about the technology of spaceships. He was actually being trained to use his mind to fly or guide the ship that he kept visiting. This man had the same mentor from childhood on.
Sometimes people are given prophecies as to what could happen to the Earth if we don't shape up — if we don't stop polluting the environment and start doing things that are ecologically correct. They learn what could happen to us if we use nuclear weapons.
Sometimes people are shown prophetic disaster scenes. It's thought by some that these prophecies are given because the ETs themselves seek to study people's emotional reactions. And that may be true in some cases, but it's also true that many experiencers end up motivated to start different projects here on Earth in an attempt to remedy some of our ecological problems and work toward peace.
Some experiencers are led into spiritual and enlightening experiences so they can see the big universal picture and not just the human picture. Some are given technological information that could be developed here on Earth — these are the ones who may be developing things like free energy devices.
There's an overall feeling of unconditional love that some experiencers feel coming from these beings — more love than they have ever experienced on the planet. In fact, people often feel very sad when they are returned from an experience with these loving beings. They feel loved all the way through, with no conditions.
Some people say that the ETs have a glow around them with a denser core, and that sometimes the glow is so bright they can hardly look at it. And meanwhile the people are experiencing this radiation of incredible love. The experience is described as extremely enlightening. People feel they are in the presence of the Creator, even though they are with a specific being.
Some people experience being taken way out into space to a place that, as they are approaching it, looks like a whole crystal city. And the crystals are lighted and glowing. That seems to be another dimension — a lot of these beings seem to be other dimensional or multi-dimensional.
And people often work with ETs that are more embodied, or three-dimensional. Sometimes the three-dimensional being will take people to these other-dimensional beings, and the people will then have an extremely positive experience.
Wynn: If we know people who are having these kinds of experiences, will that increase our own chances of having them also?
Barbara: I don't think so. I don't think it's "catching."
One thing we have noticed again and again, though, is that there seems to be a familial relationship. One family may be studied for a number of generations. So some of the beings are apparently interested in that particular genetic line. Maybe it's to inspire a whole family line in a positive way. It's hard to know for certain. All we can do is speculate.
Wynn: Are any of these beings talking about this dimensional shift that some say the world is going through.
Barbara: This has come through some of the people I know who channel; there's this huge dimensional shift occurring, and it's happening not only on Earth but also on other planets, both inside and outside our solar system. There's a huge movement or process going on to shift us into a higher dimension. It might be the fourth dimension or the fifth dimension.
There's a theory that the people on third-dimensional Earth who are ready for the change — who have an opening in their consciousness — will be shifted into another dimension, while those who are not open to this will remain in the third dimension. But I don't know the truth of this. It's only speculation.
Wynn: How would we know whether or not we needed this kind of regression work, if we couldn't remember anything consciously?
Barbara: People will often have clues that they wonder and wonder about. Perhaps they've had an experience of missing time. Or they might have awakened in the night and found a light or strange beings in their room. They might experience unusual markings on their body. Or they might wake up reversed in their bed. Sometimes people are returned outside their homes and their house is still locked.
Sometimes people will simply have a powerful dream about being with these unusual beings. When we've regressed to something that seemed to be a dream, then if it was really something else the whole scenario will unfold. If it was just a dream, then that also will show itself during the regression.
Some people have a negative reaction to seeing pictures of certain groups of ETs. Some people are afraid to go to sleep at night. Then there may be a certain hour of the night when they suddenly feel safe — the assumption being that they had an ET experience that either began or ended at that time, and staying awake makes them think they can fight it off.
Some people have learned that if they resist, the beings will go away. We think that it's possible for different people to declare vehemently enough to the beings that they don't want to participate in this ever, and when they do, the visits seem to stop.
Other people can feel very powerless. I've seen people start out feeling horrible and invaded, and then — after a few regressions — realize that there is a fascinating and positive aspect to what is happening.
So then, they think, "Even if I get frightened, I guess I'll go along with it. Because very interesting things are going on." The very first person I ever worked with came in after about six sessions, and she was just glowing. She said, "I feel as though I am privileged to be part of a very special program."

Douglas Taylor's Story Wynn: We are at the UFO Convention on February 9, 2003 in Laughlin, Nevada, talking with Douglas Taylor, a carpenter who has experiences of leaving his body and joining a family of ETs on their craft.
Douglas, I understand you are an artist.
Douglas: Yes.  And that in itself is the most profound experience I've had, because I wasn't even interested in art before the age of thirty. Even as a kid in school I had no rapport with art.
I started having experiences when I was in my early twenties. I would be lying on my bed and all of a sudden feel my consciousness begin to lift up and be projected out of my body. I would rise to probably about six or seven feet above the bed, but when I turned around I could still see my body lying there below. This intrigued me to the point to where I wanted to research much deeper into just what exactly was taking place and how my consciousness could live outside of my physical body.
For the first twenty years of my life, I had been totally happy expressing my passion as a surfer. I experienced complete peace as I rode the waves. But as I began to get older, I felt that there must be more of a purpose to my life than just to go surfing.
Then when I was on a surf trip to the Caribbean Islands and was lying on my bed, the now-familiar feeling of projecting myself happened again. Except this time, instead of seeing myself floating around my room, I saw these seven beings standing directly in front of me, who began to communicate with me telepathically.
Now, this telepathic communication itself was an incredible experience. But even more incredible than that was the upliftment I felt when they transported me to their craft. These beings were human in appearance, but they almost seemed to be radiating sunlight around them. There was this tremendous sense that I was being a taken to a more positive level of consciousness.
While I was in the craft they explained to me that the reason they take people aboard was to help them extend the limitations of their own minds to discover the greater purpose of their lives.
I felt so uplifted, so high, I just started asking, "Can I go with you? Can I go with you?"
And they said no, that I wasn't prepared to go with them but sometime in the future perhaps I could. That happened when I was twenty-eight years old, and it inspired me to begin searching deeper within myself. I was intuitively guided to bookstores, and to finding the right books. I was educating myself to understand how I could live outside my body — in the true energy body, what is known as the soul — and how that energy body truly is a reflection of the energy that we've each created for ourselves over periods of many lifetimes. It goes to the idea that we've all lived past lives, and that those lives have certain aberrations that are blocking us from expressing our true selves and expressing our true creativity.
So as I continued to educate myself, I began to learn how to remove the blocks. And as that process took place, I suddenly began to feel this desire to express myself creatively. I began to draw spaceships and cosmic landscapes.
I found that when I sat down at the canvas and started to paint, I could feel that same upliftment and energy that I felt in my first ET encounter, twenty-five years ago.
I've educated myself to the point to where I've learned how I can raise my own frequency and my own consciousness to the point to where I can maintain that higher level, the higher consciousness that those individuals inside that craft shared with me.
I learned that I have this positive, creative higher self — that we all have this, but for many it's blocked off. But it's possible to learn how to remove those blocks and become clear channels.
Actually, that's what I consider my art and writing to be. I wrote a book called Soulic Journeys. The book came out of these various experiences I've had that have given me the ability to be a channel and to be someone who can help other people by sharing my experiences.
I learned that I had been very negatively involved in many of my past lives. I had to recognize the negative aspects of my personality and my over-exaggerated ego. I had to face these negative parts of myself and acknowledge them and let them go. Then the clarity and the attunement and the ability to become a clear channel would began to manifest through my artwork and through my writing.
Wynn: Others speak of having their bodies disappear from the physical plane while they are on the spacecraft, and then come back. Did that happen in your case?
Douglas: No. My physical body was still here. I was projecting outside of my body, learning that the body itself is a vehicle, or like clothes that we wear over our spirits.
I have learned that there is a science behind this whole process of understanding how we exist as a spiritual being. I have begun to understand that each of us is a transceiver. We can both transmit and receive information based on the channels that we are tuned in to, just like a two-way radio. There's no difference.
Our mind is always tuned in to specific channels, and we can learn how to tune in to higher channels. Often, it's just a matter of sitting down and putting our minds into a state where we're being altruistic and creative, desiring express ourselves in some positive way. Somehow, that intention seems to cause the higher channel to dial in, so when somebody else sees the art or reads the words that you wrote, they experience the same high. It's not my conscious self that creates my art or writing. I'm simply the vehicle or channel that this information can come through.
Wynn: If I were a skeptic and I said, "No, you were imagining all this," how would you validate that this actually occurred?
Douglas: I think for the most part that one's own personal experiences are the greatest validation. It's subjective. I really can't prove any of this scientifically. I'm not involved in this to try to make money. I've been a carpenter for twenty-five years. I make a good living at this, and I enjoy it.
If you were a skeptic, you could ask yourself how someone who had no artistic ability and no desire ever to write could come out with this creativity so unexpectedly. I flunked English, and now I've written a book...
Wynn: Are you still having these out of body experiences with these other dimensional beings?
Douglas: Absolutely. It's something that I've become used to and familiar with. I'm not having experiences every single night, but they happen often. There is a definite channel that's been established so that when I'm painting or involved in doing something to further my spiritual development I can definitely feel the intuitive guidance. That's nothing concrete — nothing I can put my finger on. But I'm learning how to follow my intuition so that I can change the pattern of my thoughts to where they are encompassing a larger sphere of intelligence or information.
If we look at the actual physics of what I'm trying to speak about right now, we could compare it to the understanding of quantum mechanics. Right now, science knows that there's multiple universes. Quantum mechanics has proven that there are other dimensions. The "many world" theory says that atomic structures are appearing and disappearing into other dimensions at this incredible rate, and there are other other dimensions existing simultaneously with this one.
These ideas are my reality, me because I've visited some of those other dimensions.
Oftentimes, the visits have taken place in my dream states. And what I've come to understand is that our dreams are an opening into areas that would be shocking to us if we had to experience them in the physical.
Wynn: Have you ever been able to identify what dimension or planet solar system you were in?
Douglas: When the beings have described to me where I was, they have said that the name of their planet wouldn't mean anything. So it's not as though they gave me a magic wand to bring back, or a photograph, or even a rock. Anyway, I'm not trying to convince other people that I've had these experiences. I'm trying to share the experiences and the information that I've gained.
