The Children

the Way

The Harry Potter Phenomenon

J.K. Rowling's Higher Spirit must have helped her a great deal in writing the Harry Potter books. For she seems to have entered into an area of childhood consciousness that was just waiting to be revealed to people like you and me. There is a perfect match between her stories and the hearts of our children.

Harry PotterIt must be so. For worldwide, the children have responded. The success of the Harry Potter books is unprecedented, and the first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, has been bringing more money to the box office than any other in film history.

In Chapter One of the book on which the movie was based, Professor McGonagall tells Dumbledore:

"He'll be famous — a legend. . . There will be books written about Harry — every child in our world will know his name!"
Rowling's fictional pronouncement came true. Harry Potter is known to every child in the world. Like Dorothy and the Yellow Brick Road, his fame will live forever. Even when we are very old, your kids and mine will still remember dear Harry.

Why the Children Respond

The real question is not what Harry has done, but why his popularity and fame have mushroomed so amazingly. What is it about Harry's magic that has attracted the children of the world?

Is it only that the world's children lack magic in their lives? It definitely seems that way, since they are reading these books like no other. But is that the whole explanation, that their lives are too circumscribed and mundane, like Harry's with the Dursleys? Can Harry's success be explained by supposing that our children are living on the edge of life, "under the stairs," longing for freedom?

Or is something much deeper going on that could eventually change the lives not only of our children but of all of us? Has Harry perhaps innocently catalyzed the imagination of the young minds of the Earth (no matter their actual age) who feel that a real change is imminent in the real world — now?

In Harry Potter's story, everything does change, with a single letter delivered by an owl. A new secret world emerges that feels good, alive — magical. Whatever one focuses on with intention becomes reality. The dream world exposes itself as "truth."

Are you ready for the 4th dimension?

Magic Versus Miracles

Many questions have arisen since the first book was published. Especially, we have to ask why so many Christians feel that Rowling is writing about "evil." Did not Jesus perform magic by walking on water and even changing water into wine for no better reason than to satisfy his mother? Did he not also explicitly tell us that we could perform even greater things than he had done?

So why is Harry's magic evil?

In actuality, I feel that this is a crucial question. For we must remember that there are good and bad sorcerers! So in this Spirit of Ma'at we will be looking at the difference between miracles, which are accepted by all the Christian faiths, and magic, which is accepted only by some. We will be asking and trying to answer the question as to where psychic abilities enter into the spiritual life, and the part that discrimination plays in this vast drama.

Are the Children Showing the Way?

As many of our readers already know, the world's Superpsychic Children are actually living "Harry Potter" lives every day, right here among the "muggles" who believe, like the Dursley's, that magic is evil. And this is fact. This is not a movie, it is reality. There are even many schools now that teach children, as Hogwarts does, how to use their inborn extra-ordinary powers.

In this sense, Harry Potter is a living myth emerging in the 21st century, a harbinger of our emerging consciousness. And he comes at a crucial time, a time when the world is on the verge of a war that could destroy our Earth and her multitudes.

Harry is telling us, as so many of us already believe, that we can truly change the world's course through magic and miracles. And if we can, then perhaps we have a God-given right to do exactly that.

In this issue. . .

Over 40 years ago, Uri Geller — who speaks with us in the pages of this magazine — began "bending spoons." Really, though, he was "bending the rules" of the physical universe as we had come to know it. Now, today, children are being born with the knowledge of how to "bend" these so-called rules. And mythyical heroes like Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter loom large in our culuture because they are showing the way.

owlSo in this issue, we will look at how our children are re-inventing the nature of consciousness. We will explore the secret side of polarity consciousness: Who are we really? What is our human potential?

And if you happen to see an owl while you are thinking about these things (as I did!), don't be concerned. It's just your inner and outer worlds interconnecting with each other. It's just Harry saying, "Hi."

Don't forget to breathe!

In love and service,

Drunvalo
